Indonesia Adjudicator Development Program – English Division, 2026 Academic Year

Background

Recognizing the critical role high-quality adjudicators play in developing parliamentary debate in Indonesia, the Indonesia Adjudicator Development Program is designed to deliver a fair and accessible initiative that ensures a standardized growth of adjudicators from different regions. This program provides a structured platform to learn adjudication whilst strengthening adjudicator capacity nationwide and expanding regional diversity within the judging pool.

A. Program Details

Indonesia Adjudicator Development Program consists of two phases, each tailored to various milestones.

Phase 1: National-level Development Phase

National-level Development Phase (NLDP) is designed to provide students with solid judging foundations needed to be fully well-versed with British Parliamentary adjudication and be able to maintain consistent high-level adjudication quality.

Details:

  • Goal: National-level accreditation by Q3 2026.
  • Quota: 30 students

The National-level Development Phase (NLDP) consists of 3 parts:

  1.  Adjudicating Fundamentals Courses

2026 NLDP students will participate in a series of courses covering the basics of adjudication. Attendance is mandatory and each course will be graded to determine the level of understanding for each student.

Each session lasts for an average of 90-120 minutes for materials and evaluation.
Non-students may participate as sit-ins throughout all courses provided. Sit-in students will receive participation certificates but not graded reports.

  1. Adjudicating Practices

2026 NLDP students are expected to join biweekly DebateLabs by Aurgumentum to directly tryout as an adjudicator. Different formats will be implemented to assess the various components of adjudication, which will be regularly adjusted according to the recent curriculum.

  1. Tournament Participation

NLDP students must be actively joining tournaments on a national level. The purpose of participating in tournaments is to habituate in the intensity of judging multiple rounds and aim to break into the outrounds. Students will be required to set goals for each tournament, seek feedback from CAP and their chairs, as well as participate in an evaluation session after the end of the tournament.

Each student is expected to join at least three (3) tournaments in the span of the program as an Institutional or Independent Adjudicator, which includes:

  1. Two tournaments of their choosing as preparation competitions (it has to be in British Parliamentary Format, in English, with a proper judge feedback mechanism implemented)
  2. Aurgumentum Intervarsity Debating Championship – English Division 2026 (AuIV EN 2026

Registration fee for Aurgumentum events are included in the program, while students are subjected to the registration fee of the tournament of their choosing.

End of NLDP

The National-level Development Phase is projected to end in May 2026, where successful students would have gained multiple accreditations in different tournaments and build the foundations of a credible and reputable judge. Upon the completion of the program, successful students will have their program completion publicized to recognize the achievements of the students, who are now well-trusted adjudicators.


Phase 2: Advanced Development Phase

The second phase will be a reserved, exclusive stage selected from the successful students of the first phase. The Advanced Development Phase apprentices will be handpicked based on the performance and growth of the previous section, and will be invited for a refreshment of commitment to extend the program.

Details:

  • Goal: Deeper and advanced understanding of a model adjudicator.
  • Slot: 5 apprentices

The Advanced Development Phase (ADP) consists of 3 parts:

  1. Advanced Adjudication Courses

ADP Apprentices will participate in a series of courses covering more advanced materials. Attendance is mandatory and each course will be graded to determine the level of understanding for each apprentice.

  • Each session lasts for an average of 90-120 minutes for materials and evaluation.

Non-students may participate as a sit-ins throughout all courses provided. Sit-in students will receive participation certificates but not graded reports.

  1. Advanced Adjudicator Model

ADP apprentices are to display the model form of a high-level adjudicator. This is tested in real-debate scenarios such as high-level spars or observations in tournaments.

  1. Tournament Participation

ADP apprentices are expected to join two (2) international-level tournaments, ideally bona-fide pre-ABP and/or pre-WUDC tournaments.

End of ADP

The Advanced Development Program is expected to end in August 2026, where successful apprentices would have been equipped with advanced adjudicating skills, international accreditation, and be properly recognized in the Indonesian Debating Circuit. Upon the completion of the program, successful students will have their program completion publicized to recognize the achievements of the students, who are now well-trusted high-level adjudicators.

Phase 3: International Development Phase

1 (one) advanced development student, chosen based on attendance, performance, and growth, shall receive subsidies to participate in Asian British Parliamentary (ABP) 2026 in Hanoi, Vietnam as an adjudicator representing Indonesia.

Hanoi ABP 2026 will be conducted on 23-27 August 2026, whereby the awardee will be given 1 month of intensive training prior to the tournament dates.

The ABP Scholarship Awardee will be equipped with the following:

  • All costs covered; including registration, travel, meals, and daily allowance.
  • Intensive adjudicator preparation specified for ABP
  • Mentorship and support

C. Application Details

General Application Criteria

All applicants shall meet these following criteria

  1. Strong ties to the Indonesia debating community: Indonesia-affiliated born and raised, currently or have studied in Indonesian-affiliated secondary or tertiary education, or currently teaching in Indonesian-affiliated secondary or tertiary education
  2. Willing to contribute to the community post-program: how they plan to contribute back to their province / local debating circuit or community once the program ends.
  3. Strong communication skills and growth mindset: applicants are expected to have the capacity to receive feedback and improve as an individual, with the goal to be an excellent adjudicator, not just a subpar accredited one.

Applicants are evaluated and selected based on merit, regional and gender diversity, and their planned contribution to the community.

NLDP students and ADP apprentices Criteria

To stay within the program, students and apprentices must present the following criteria:

  1. Attendance: all students and apprentices must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance for each respective phase. Any missing attendance(s) shall be accompanied with a formal letter detailing reasons of missing attendance.
  2. Equitable Behavior: all students and apprentices must maintain a decorum, respectful, and equitable behavior throughout their enrollment period. This includes during classes, practice sessions, and outside classes (including but not limited to in their respective community / clubs, tournaments, and other environment deemed relevant)

All violation(s) shall be investigated thoroughly and act upon proportionately. Punitive measure(s) including formal warning, obligations to create public apology, and/or expulsion may be sanctioned by the organizer as deemed proportionate.

Program Benefits

  1. Participation certificates for each classes for all students, apprentices, and sit-in students.
  2. Full report card and comprehensive feedback for applicants completing full coursework, practice sessions, with a minimum of 80% attendance record.
  3. Coursework Module access to all students, apprentices, and sit-in students

Program Investment

  1. NLDP Students: Successful applicants will be informed via email and social media, and are required to complete a full programme tuition fee of Rp720.000,- to complete their enrollment.
  • Failure to complete payment or to confirm their enrollment by given deadline shall result in forfeiture of their application. The next applicant on the waiting list shall be invited to participate.
  • All payment details will be provided via email.
  • 3, 6, 12 months installment provided.
  1. ADP Apprenticeships: Top performing NLDP students shall be invited to continue for ADP Apprenticeships and will be informed via email and social media. This program is free of charge for all invited candidates.
  • Failure to confirm their enrollment by given deadline shall result in forfeiture of their invitation. The next candidate on the waiting list shall be invited to participate.
  1. Sit-in students: Non-students may participate as a sit-in students throughout all courses provided in NLDP and ADP programme. Sit-in students will receive participation certificates but not graded reports. Registration fee will be as follows
    1. Individual class: Rp60.000,- per session per student
    2. NLDP sit-in package: Rp250.000,- per student for all 6 (six) NLDP coursework sessions
    3. ADP sit-in package: Rp250.000,- per student all 5 (five) ADP coursework sessions
    4. NLDP + ADP sit-in package: Rp400.000,- per session for all 11 (eleven) NLDP and ADP coursework sessions

Andree is a highly accomplished figure in the Indonesian debating community, recognized for his extensive experience as both a top-tier speaker, world-renowned tabulation director, and experienced event organizer. Andree used to debate representing BINUS University and now pursuing graduate studies in Institut Teknologi Bandung

As a debater, Andree has won Indonesia Varsity English Debate (IVED) 2023 and ALSA e-Comp UI 2022, and reached Open Semifinals of United Asians Debating Championship (UADC) in 2022, marking the furthest an Indonesian institution has progressed in the Open Category of UADC. 

His expertise extends beyond competition into tournament leadership, having served as tabulation adjudicator for National Schools Debating Championship (NSDC) and National Universities Debating Championship (NUDC) for almost a decade, and internationally renowned as part of tabulation team for World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) for 5 iterations. 

With a proven track record of mentorship and tournament organization, Andree brings a wealth of strategic insight and technical proficiency to his role as head organizer of the event.

Ariel is a distinguished figure in the Indonesian debating community, renowned for her consistent excellence as a debater representing Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya and now serving as an employee development and culture-building specialist in a multi-national company.

Ariel’s competitive record is distinguished by her performance at the 2022 Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships, where she emerged as the EFL Champion, the EFL Grand Finals Best Speaker, and the 3rd Best EFL Speaker overall. On the global stage, she reached the EFL Semifinals of the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) 2022, further solidifying their presence as internationally renowned speaker and adjudicator.

Ariel is a transformative leader and advocate; she founded the Indonesia Wom*n and Gender Minority (IWGM) Forum and Championships, reflecting her deep dedication to creating inclusive spaces within the community. Her academic expertise and leadership have led to her appointment as a Chief Adjudicator for the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) 2025, where she continues to shape the future of Indonesia Debating Circuit

Tengku Omar – Curriculum Advisor

Tengku Omar is a distinguished alumnae and cornerstone of Indonesian Debating Community, representing Universitas Padjadjaran during their undergraduate studies and completing graduate studies at Columbia University, New York. Currently Omar is working as human capital strategist abroad but their ties has always been to the nation and its community.

Omar is a world-renowned adjudicator. In recent years only, Omar is trusted to be part of 1 ESL Finals and 2 Open Finals in World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) panel of adjudication, alongside serving various regional majors as member of Core Adjudication Panel, Equity, and/or Language Team. 

Omar have been instrumental in shaping the national circuit, having spearheaded both the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) and the National Schools Debating Championship (NSDC) to establish rigorous frameworks for academic substance, debate manuals, work professionalism, and equity implementation. Their altruistic dedication to the community is reflected in years of service coaching Indonesia’s contingents for both WUDC and WSDC. Often seen with their iconic photo of them wrapped in Indonesian flag, Omar’s work is driven by a deep love for the circuit and a commitment to elevating the country’s competitive standing through mentorship and structural excellence.
